Andrew Pater BrownAndrew Pater Brown is a consultant and software architect for Slalom Consulting, a consulting firm based out of Seattle, Washington. His work in the custom development practice allows the Seattle office to improve their service offering, developing custom solutions for their clients.

Born on December 21st, 1980, Brown grew up in the Spokane Valley, near Spokane, Washington, and later on a farm north of Spokane with his brother and sister. Their father is an architect, their mother is a homemaker, and both are teachers.

At a very young age, Brown discovered his interest in technology and began learning everything available to him about computers shortly after he was able to read. He founded a small internet service provider that served the surrounding farm community in 1998, outsourcing the heavy infrastructure needs to another internet provider in neighboring Spokane, and provided consulting services to surrounding small businesses, including web design, computer training, and other technology needs. This successful venture marked Brown’s first entry into the professional world, and left him thirsty for more.

Brown was homeschooled until graduation on January 12th, 1998, when he received his diploma and began attending classes at Spokane Falls Community College, with the intention of transferring to either the University of Washington or Washington State University. Although his focus was on mathematics and computer science, he also greatly enjoyed almost any other subject, and often pointed out that one can never learn too much. Brown’s studies were complemented by practical workplace experience as a network engineer for a small Spokane firm.

In his sophomore year, which coincided with the demise of the dot com bubble, a job loss forced Brown to leave the Spokane area and move near Seattle to pursue a contract opportunity as a software test engineer at Microsoft, where he began working on the DNS server and client for Windows 2003 and XP, and marking his first professional experience in the world of software development.

Over the next several years, Brown focused on learning as much as possible about software development, and eventually accepted a consultant and developer position at a management consulting firm based out of Chicago. His professional growth there eventually led to him accepting a position at Slalom Consulting, where he continues his work today.

Brown has one daughter, born in 2007, named Olivia Grace. She loves to play at the beach, play with play-doh, sing 'twinkle, twinkle, little star' and roller skate with her daddy.
